A recent graduate from OU Student Media’s advertising team has been named to Adweek’s Creative 100, an annual listing of the most innovative people working in marketing, content, media and culture.

Angela Chang, class of 2017, was a designer and design manager in her time with OU Student Media. She now works in San Francisco for Portal A, an award-winning branded and original content company that works with clients like Snapchat, Google, Target, YouTube and Disney. In her five years with the company, Chang has climbed from junior designer to art director.

“The real start to my career,” Chang told Adweek, “was in my first semester of college, where I discovered a love of design through an extracurricular opportunity to make a poster. Eight hours deep into PhotoShop tutorials, I realized the sky had turned dark outside, and I hadn’t gotten hungry at all. I was hooked. A few years — and an advertising bachelor’s degree — later, I locked in a fellowship with MAIP at Wongdoody as an art direction intern, where I started tinkering with animation on the side, inspired by the motion designers there.”

Chang’s personal website describes herself as follows: “A designer with a background in digital entertainment branding, advertising and motion design. In my work-work, I build on brand identities to create visual systems for various digital platforms. In my personal work, I’m heavily inspired by my Asian American cultural heritage and entertainment with a strong nerd factor, and I hope my work can engage people who share similar interests on a nostalgic, feel-good level.”

Other names on the Creative 100 listing include Anderson .Paak, the rapper and songwriter; Jesse Armstrong, the creator of HBO’s “Succession”; Vida Cornelious, The New York Times’ vice president for creative and and advertising; Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, the creators of AMC’s “Better Call Saul”; and fellow former OU student Sterlin Harjo, co-creator of FX’s “Reservation Dogs.”
