OU Daily staffers earn six digital Gold Circle awards from Columbia Scholastic Press Association

Students from The OU Daily placed six times Friday in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s annual digital media Gold Circle competition, which honors individual works of online journalism.

The Daily won first place in video feature package for Out of Bounds, pregaming. The segment was created by a team that included executive producer Will Conover, director Christian Anderson, hosts Janae Reeves and Xavier Turner; cinematographers Tessa Fungo, Justin Jayne and Collin McDaniel. The Daily also won first place in podcast for Uncovered: Missing all the Signs by Paxson Haws and Conover.

The Daily won second place in breaking news for coverage of Gaylord College professor Peter Gade using a racial slur in class, written by Jordan Miller, Nick Hazelrigg and Bailey Lewis. It also won second in personality profile for Courageous: The Maggie Nichols story by George Stoia. It also won second in video news package for Evans Hall sit-in, a segment filmed by Anderson, Conover, Jayne, McDaniel and Leslie Mejia; edited and written by Conover and Jayne; and narrated by Conover.

Finally, The Daily earned a certificate of merit for in-depth news/feature story for ‘It cannot be full consent’ by Jana Hayes (Allen).
