The Oklahoma Daily won a Newspaper Pacemaker and Sooner yearbook won a Yearbook Pacemaker — both major college journalism awards — Oct. 22, 2016, at the Associated Collegiate Press awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
This is the second consecutive year The Daily has been a double Pacemaker finalist for online and print categories.
The paper was judged based on submissions from the 2015-2016 academic year, when Joe Mussatto was editor.
Sooner yearbook won this year’s award for the 2014-2015 book, when Maxwell Inmon was editor. This year’s award was the 10th the yearbook has received and the fourth it has won in the past five years.
A Pacemaker award is considered one of the highest honors in college journalism. The awards are given based on criteria such as coverage, content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership, design, photography and graphics, according to the ACP website.
This year, OU Student Media was the only student media organization to have Pacemaker finalists in the Newspaper, Online and Yearbook categories.
