Student Media Departments

AdForce students sell and design ads for The Oklahoma Daily and OUDaily.com, Sower and a variety of special publications. Students sell thousands of dollars worth of advertising and design hundreds of ads for hundreds of clients annually. In addition, the department houses a Creativei Services unit and a Special Publications editor. If you’re interested in any part of advertising or sales, this is the home for you. Advertising alumni work in a variety of sales, marketing, design and PR jobs, including Bernstein-Rein, The Wall Street Journal and Cultura.

The Oklahoma Daily/OUDaily.com offers a variety of positions related to the day-to-day operations of producing one of the nation’s top student newspapers and Web sites. The staff is arranged by sections - campus/news, life and arts, sports, opinion, photo, copy/night desk online and multimedia - and can be found in the newsroom from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. five days a week. Daily alums receive internship and job offers from across the country and have gone on to work at The Washington Post, The New York Times, ESPN, The Dallas Morning News and hundreds of national and international media companies.

Production (labeled prepress and IT on our application) does the behind-the-scenes work for many of our publications: creating page layouts, transmitting publications to the printer and handling many of Student Media’s IT responsibilities. Production alums are prepared for a variety of media jobs, and some of our graduates have worked with National Geographic and The Wall Street Journal.

Sooner is OU's award-winning yearbook, repeatedly judged one of the best in the country. Staffers are divided into “desks”: writing, design and photo. With real-world experience on their resumes, Sooner alums have interned and worked at Every Day with Rachael Ray, Spirit magazine, The Washington Post, D Magazine, Parents, People and more magazines, newspapers and media organizations across the country.
