The following is a set of guidelines for Daily staffers adopted from RTDNA and The Daily Tarheel.
IMAGE AND REPUTATION: Personal and professional lives merge online. Newsroom employees should recognize that their words become direct extensions of their news organization. When you work for a news organization, you represent that organization on and off the clock.
TRUTH AND FAIRNESS: Social media comments and posts should meet the same standards of fairness, accuracy and attribution that we apply to our journalism.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY: You are responsible for everything you say on the newsroom’s platforms and your own.
If a staffer neglects or refuses to follow these and broader social media professional best practices, especially after discussions with their editor or the editor-in-chief, it could be grounds for termination.
