Daily sports editor Mason Young placed eighth in the nation this week in the Hearst Awards’ sports reporting category for his profile of then OU quarterback Caleb Williams ahead of the Alamo Bowl.
The contest honors the top 20 college sports reporting pieces in the nation.
This marks The Daily’s first placement of the 2021-22 Hearst cycle, which staggers its category deadlines throughout the academic year.
Last year, staffers from The Daily placed six times in Hearst categories. Since 2014-15, The Daily now has placed 24 times in the contest, which honors the best in collegiate journalism.
