Daily staffer part of Sports Emmy-winning team at NFL Network

Will Conover

Daily staffer Will Conover on Wednesday was part of a team from the NFL Network that was honored with a Sports Emmy.

Conover, a senior who will return as The Daily’s video editor this fall, interned with NFL Films in spring 2019 before the position turned into a summer job. In his time with NFL Films, he worked two projects that jointly won the Emmy, NFL 100 Greatest and NFL 100 All-Time Team.

NFL 100 Greatest explored the league’s top plays, celebrities and teams through more than 400 interviews that aired for 10 weeks across 20, one-hour episodes. NFL 100 All-Time Team ran for six weeks, crowning the top 100 players and 10 coaches named the greatest in their respective positions.

Conover, who is listed as an associate producer for the NFL work honored by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for Trans-Media Sports Coverage, also has been the architect of The Daily’s video operation in recent years. He’s been central in growing it from a small unit that mostly produced social media video into an established, thriving branch of our operation that generates more than 50,000 views per week. Those efforts were also honored this summer when The Daily won its first Heartland Student Achievement Award for sports student production.

The honor was part of the student categories of the 34th annual Heartland Regional Emmy Awards presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Conover was producer/editor on that piece, Out of Bounds: Pregaming, along with Christian Anderson, who served as director, and Xavier Turner and Janae Reeves, who were on-camera talent. The piece was one of three episodes of The Daily’s magazine style sports show produced throughout the 2019 football season.
