Incoming freshmen and current students in OU Student Media may apply for the scholarships described below.

High school seniors should use OU's freshman scholarship application at Freshman Scholorships. Current students should return the application below by April 29, 2016.

Media Leadership Award

$500 tuition waiver and $500 annual stipend

Student Media will honor up to four students annually for their leadership potential in Student Media and the profession. Students selected will be awarded a tuition waiver for the fall and spring semesters of their following year ($500 annually), plus a $500 stipend.

The stipend will be offered to students for participation in a leadership development program or purchase of software, books or other leadership-building materials. With approval of their professional staff adviser/manager and the director of Student Media, students will choose a professional development activity or purchase. Students will receive up to a $500 stipend for participation in the leadership development activity or to purchase the materials. A student may choose to participate in a campus leadership series, attend a conference or other activity of benefit to their leadership development or to purchase software, hardware, books, etc.

Awards are to be considered for one incoming freshman, one current freshman, a sophomore and a junior. Awards will be made for the following academic year.


- Incoming freshmen applicants must have worked on a high school publication, such as a school newspaper or yearbook, and/or have interned with a commercial newspaper, magazine or other publication.

- All other applicants must have worked for OU Student Media for one semester before application (includes semester of application). - Applicants must be making satisfactory progress toward graduation. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA overall. Applicants must be enrolled in at least 12 hours and be in at least their second or third semester of coursework at the time of application.


Cecil H. Brite Scholarship, Louise B. Moore Scholarship and W.C. Vanderwerth Awards

$250 annually

These awards were created by the Publications Board to honor Cecil H. Brite, retired director of Student Publications (now Student Media); Louise B. Moore, retired editorial adviser to The Oklahoma Daily, and W.C. Vanderwerth, former superintendent of production and printing in the department. Each scholarship is awarded annually based on outstanding contributions to Student Media.


  • - Applicants must have worked for Student Media for one semester before application and may not serve as editor or student advertising manager during the year of application.

  • - Applicants must be making satisfactory progress toward graduation. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA overall. Undergraduates must be enrolled in 12 hours during the semester of application, and graduate students must be enrolled in six hours.

Stacy Wehrenberg Memorial Adversity Scholarship

$500 annually

This scholarship has been established in loving memory and honor of Stacy (Thrailkill) Wehrenberg business office manager of Student Media. Student Media was forever in her heart as she dedicated 25 years to the department. She lost her battle with a rare breast cancer on September 26, 2012. Stacy was courageous in her battle. In life she always wore a smile, and maintained an incredible sense of humor; however, her greatest attribute was her selfless, caring love and concern for others. It has been said that she was the glue of Student Media. This scholarship recognizes an outstanding individual who also knows the face of adversity. Scholarship awarded annually.

To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a full-time, regularly enrolled student at the University;
- Must be working for the Department of Student Media;
- Must face an adversity in their lives, such as: a life threatening disease; disabilities;
financial need; sudden loss of a parent; family crisis; recurring health related issues; and
- Must not be a contributor to the Fund or an immediate family member of a contributor.

2. Submit page to the Student Media business office located in Copeland Hall room 149A.
