OU Daily, Sooner yearbook celebrated in ACP’s centennial Pacemaker 100 list

The OU Daily and Sooner yearbook were among the honorees named Wednesday in the Associated Collegiate Press’ listing of its top 100 publications.

The distinction is timed to ACP launching its centennial celebration. The Pacemakers are recognized as the top prizes in collegiate journalism across online sites, newspapers, magazines, yearbooks and broadcasts.

“The Pacemaker really represents the best of the best and it is appropriate that we recognize the rich tradition this award has in collegiate  journalism as part of our centennial celebration,” ACP associate director Gary Lundgren said in a news release.

The Pacemaker 100 list represents a one-time snapshot of the top 100 publications recognized in the competition’s history. Each Pacemaker finalist was awarded five points and each Pacemaker earned 10 points. The results were tabulated in June 2021. All will be honored and the top 10 will be named at the ACP/CMA Fall National College Media Convention, Oct. 14-17 in New Orleans.

During the upcoming school year, a searchable database of member publications earning Pacemaker recognition will be added to ACP’s website. According to currently available Student Media records, Sooner won 12 Pacemakers and was a 10-time finalist before ceasing publication after the 2018-19 yearbook was published. The Daily has won seven Pacemakers and has been a nine-time finalist.

Last year, Sooner was inducted into ACP’s Hall of Fame for eclipsing the induction standard of 15 combined honors since 1970. OU Student Media’s professional staff has applied for The Daily to be considered for Hall of Fame induction at ACP’s next judging opportunity.
