Lori Brooks, Associate Director of Student Media, Features Advisor

Lori likes to think she's a superhero: Give her a G2 ink pen and a block of poorly written text, and she's off to change the world. When she's not in tights, though, she's adviser to the award-winning Sooner yearbook, Sower magazine and a variety of publications in Student Media's Features department as well as a national leader in collegiate media. With experience in both in newspapers (The Seattle Times, The Albuquerque Tribune) and PR, she found her way back home to Student Media in 2004. She grew up in the department, serving as Daily editor way back in 1996, and these days, it's like she never left.

 Name: Lori Brooks

 Title: Associate Director, Features Advisor
 e-mail: lbrooks@ou.edu

Started in department: 1994 (student), 2004 (pro staff)

Favorite thing about working in Student Media: They make me laugh; they make me cry; they  became a part of me.

What you most want students to know: This is where it happens, people. Get on board.

What students are likely to not know about you: They're allowed to not know everything about me?  Shh, don't tell them.

First thing you do when you arrive at work: Check email and Facebook.

Last thing you do before you leave: Fight my way out the door (by promising to return tomorrow).

Dream vacation: Beach and a book.

Source of inspiration: My 9-year-old daughter, Emma

 Source of fuel: Made-from-scratch granola

What you're most proud of: What we do here

You wouldn't be caught dead: Using Comic Sans

Dream job: Copy editor to the world.

What you'd do if you didn't have to work: Read. And then read some more.

Your sartorial style: I've been described as both “straight out a cowgirl catalog” and “a member of a    bad-ass sorority. You  know, the kind who smoke cigarettes.” So we'll say it depends on my mood and  my calendar.

Social media, love it or hate it: I wrote 2,567 words for a College Media Review cover story on    advisers and Facebook. You  tell me.

Best advice you ever received: You can do it. It's not that hard.
