Judy Gibbs Robinson, Newsroom Advisor

Judy Gibbs Robinson, editorial adviser to The Oklahoma Daily and OUDaily.com, loves nothing more than an hour spent with a cup of good coffee and a great newspaper. Nevertheless, she has really, truly accepted that it's about journalism, not about newspapers. Her 20-plus years with The Associated Press helped her appreciate the 24 hour news cycle that defines online journalism today. A University of Missouri journalism grad, she was among the first to earn a master's degree from OU's then new Gaylord College in 2001. After a stint teaching journalism at OU, she spent four years reporting on minority affairs at The Oklahoman before coming back to campus in 2007 to become The Daily's adviser.

Favorite thing about working in Student Media: That one's easy: the students.
Least favorite thing about working in Student Media: The over-active air conditioning system.
What you most want students to know: Professional media companies proactively scout out new talent  from our departments.
What you wanted to be when you grew up: Until I was 7 or 8, a ballerina; but when I was 12 I started  a neighborhood newspaper.
Favorite Student Media anecdote: The alarm on the door leading directly to the parking lot wasn't  working and some students discovered that and began using it for quick exits -- despite signs warning  “emergency exit only.” One day, the alarm got fixed when no one was around. So of course it went off  loudly that night, set off by -- wait for it -- the editor in chief.
What you most want students to know: If you want a career that's challenging and interesting every  single day, choose journalism.
What students are likely to not know about you: At 24, I was the youngest person on the Associated  Press General Desk at the time. (These days I'm more likely to being the oldest in the room!)
Dream vacation: Hiking with a Sherpa guide in Nepal.
Source of inspiration: Poetry and fiction
 Source of fuel: Caffeine
What you're most proud of: My own two children, now young adults
What's now playing on your music media of choice: “Waltz for Debbie” by Bill Evans
You wouldn't be caught dead (at, doing, etc.): Paying full price
 Dream job: I have it.
 Pet peeve: The Oxford comma
Best advice you ever received: Find your joy.
