Now: Intern | O Magazine
Then: 2005-06 editor, The Oklahoma Daily
I can still remember the first time I walked into Copeland Hall 160: The Oklahoma Daily newsroom. I was a junior beginning a new major (switching from business to journalism) and freaking out about my lack of experience to put on a resume and in a portfolio. I had no idea what I was doing there except that a friend told me to apply.
A semester later, my biggest regret was that I didn't start earlier.
By graduation, I had writing clips that helped me land internships that I was proud to put on my resume and was given opportunities that never would have been handed to me otherwise, like attending a national political convention in New York and going on a media excursion to Israel.
But more important, I benefited most from the day-to-day learning and experience of the newsroom. Those were the things that helped me discover what I wanted to do in media and showed me how to get there. When I say I learned everything I know from Student Media, it's a literal statement. Those experiences helped me find my place in the media world and got me there.
